In the early 1950’s Barrie Cooke studied Art History at Harvard University in the USA. Thereafter, he moved to Dublin and had his first solo exhibition there in 1954. An illustrious career followed for the abstract / semi-abstract expressionist and his work has since been exhibited across Europe, the USA and Canada. Along with several major museum and gallery retrospectives, his beautiful paintings are held in many private collections. His friendship with some of Irelands leading poets have also lead to numerous collaborations. Two recent works ‘Elk Meets Sweeney’ and ‘Megaceros Hibernicus’ featured in BogSkin, at the RHA Gallery in Dublin, an exhibition charting the changing attitudes in art to our boglands over the past fifty years.
