Charles Brady arrived in Lismore, County Waterford in 1956, having left New York to spend some time in Ireland. Here he painted small landscapes, in contrast to the everyday objects he had been painting at home in America. In 1960 he became a founder member of the Independent Artists Group in Dublin, and a number of his works were included in the inaugural exhibition. Throughout the seventies and eighties, he began to teach at the National College of Art and Design, while continuing to paint. His very attractive small paintings, soft, hazy still-life’s and landscapes continue to be enormously popular among collectors. His exquisite and distinctive works exude a truly ‘painterly’ quality.
