The American artist Dale Chihuly spent a number of months at Lismore Castle in 1995, preparing for a major 'millennium' project for the city of Venice. The commission was to create and hang a number of his world famous glass chandeliers throughout the city. He and his team spent their time in Lismore designing the pieces and creating them in collaboration with Waterford Crystal - the first time colour had been used in crystal at Waterford. The results were extraordinary and the Chihuly Over Venice project was lauded around the world. ‘Dancing at Lismore Castle, Ireland’, is a terrific painting in acrylic and watercolour, large colourful, energetic, it is an excellent example of Chihuly extraordinary style. The painting was executed in Lismore at a time when the artist was at the height of his creative expression.
