One of the most famous and controversial artists in the world, Damien Hirst curated his first show while studying at Goldsmith College in the late 1980's Included were two of his Spot paintings along with works of many of his fellow students. In doing so, it was the creation of the YBA's (Young British Artists) - many of whom continue to have enormously successful careers. Hirst described his Spot paintings as' both calming and unnerving, beautiful and ordinary'. In these works - such as The Currency - he 'sought to paint as a machine yet allow for the subtle imperfections of the artist’s hand'.
