Born in Dublin in 1907 to Russian and German parents, painter Stella Steyn studied at the Metropolitan School of Art and La Grande Chaumière, Paris. Moving to London in 1932 her work was influenced by French painting, her studies of the female body, still lifes and flowers with a vibrant yet simplistic form. While she exhibited in London from the 1950’s her works were relatively unknown in Ireland until the mid 1990’s. She now has a loyal following of collectors, both old and new.
