One of the great Italian sculptors of the 20th Century, Virginio Pessina’s works are included in many public, private and museum collections. Born in Barbiana in 1906, he studied Fine Art in Milan. Although a prominent painter of landscapes and still life, he devoted himself to sculpture creating figurative and abstract works. He won several awards, including the Bergamo Prize in 1950 and the Bagutta Prize in 1960. He left a significant legacy on 20th Century Italian art on his passing and in particular the Sant Aggeo spire and many of the door panels of the Duomo di Milano.
